Today, we're going to speak about some fairly general aspects of general dentistry and possibly specialized dentistry, and hopefully be able to educate you a little better on some of those topics. Today we're going to talk about dry tongue. What can cause dry tongue in peoples. Dry tongue can be caused from a lot of different things and people can get dry tongue in the summertime for going out sweating a lot and becoming dehydrated. Any time you don't have kind of water fluids in your system then it's going to cause a decrease in the amount of salivation and cause your tongue to be dry kind of that sticky yucky type tongue. Secondly is you can have people rush on mediations that cause them to dry their system out. Diuretics any type of fluid pills that people take for hypertension varies and some other reasons can dry the mouth out and it can cause the tongue to feel very, very dry and there's also certain diseases such as sjogren syndrome others that can effect the salivary glands to cause you not to create as much saliva and when that happens you get a dry tongue also. Also people with cancer end up with very dry mouths because the radiation effects the salivary glands and actually is the most sensitive tissue in the radiation causing them to have a dry mouth or not enough saliva.
