Hello my name is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, board certified dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. This clip asks what is a dermatologist and basically a dermatologist is a medical doctor who has already gone to four years of medical school and then had four years of post medical school training. Typically the dermatologist would do one year of either general medicine or pediatric followed by three years of dermatology residency. So a dermatologist is trained overall as a physician and then specializes in skin diseases as well as diseases of the nails and the hair and also skin infections and skin tumors including skin cancer. If you should have any kind of a skin problem it is very important that you find a board certified dermatologist who is preferably a member of the American Academy of Dermatology which sets very high standards for care for you and your skin.
