"Cystic Fibrosis, it's caused by a gene that alters the protein that regulates the salt in the body. It is an inherited disorder. It effects the cells and the saliva and the digestive tract. It is also a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease that is not easily or much thought about. There are four diseases that effect the pulmonary disorder that are chronic obstructive. That is asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis but cystic fibrosis seems to have been kind of left out of there but it is a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is in thickening of secretions and the airways are plugged. It also effects the pancreas and the lungs because they plug up and so you can see how the system would just actually plug. It is a deadly disorder. It is inherited if both parents have the gene. If it is only one parent that has the gene then the patient will not have or the child will not have the disorder. It takes both parents to hand it down to the child and you usually see respiratory failure. In the newborns it is blocked intestines so it is a really deadly disorder that effects the child or the person and their life span is normally sort of short but it is a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that is inherited."
