Hi, my name is Charlotte Skiles. I'm a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting located in Austin, Texas, and today's topic is natural ways of detoxing the body. The first thing that comes to mind here is that we're not dirty. Human beings are not dirty. If you were to autopsy a body you would not find fecal matter in the intestinal tract. It's clean; there's nothing stuck up on the linings. And a lot of people selling product would have you believe that the case, and then you feel dirty and you want to buy their stuff to cleanse you and detoxify, and quite frankly it's just not necessary. So, I'd like to put that forth because really human beings are self-cleansing organisms. We are self-regulating, especially if we give the body the appropriate tools that it needs to do so. And that is where my first recommendation for natural ways of detox comes from, and that is pay attention to what you're eating. That has the greatest impact on the body's ability to detoxify. If you are eating foods that the body doesn't recognize as food, so that would be anything man made basically in a laboratory or in a facility, a packaged food of some sort with chemicals that you don't recognize, that's not food and it actually has toxins in it that you're now burdening the system with. So, my first recommendation would be to eat the foods that Mother Nature intended, so when you're when you're making food choices ask yourself does the food exist in nature? Can I pick it off a tree? Can I pluck it from the ground? Can I get it off of a bush? Is that animal living the life that nature intended? Could I go out and hunt it? In terms of, you know, really it's just about eating foods that we evolved on, that the body recognizes as such, and that's a very simple way of aiding the body's detoxification processes. Staying hydrated, as well. All the organs of detoxification in the body, the breath, the bowels, the kidneys, and the skin, all require water for pro for appropriate movement. All of them require water, so the recommendation is to drink half of your body weight in ounces. For example, somebody weighs a hundred and forty pounds; they drink seventy ounces of water a day. That can be overwhelming to some people, but that's going to serve your body greatly in terms of its ability to detoxify. Now, you may want to increase that incrementally depending on where you're at in terms of your beverage intake so that you're not just all of a sudden introducing this drastic amount of water into the system. That said; you might just want to start that way. If you do note that you might run back and forth to the restroom for three to four days while the body adjusts. You'll be dumping a lot of that water because the body quite frankly doesn't know what the hell to do with it, so give the body some time to adjust there and you'll find that you won't be going to the restroom that much any more. And a lot of people confuse thirst for hunger, so you'll really be giving your body a chance and you yourself to make that distinction; am I hungry, am I thirsty, cause' most people are chronically dehydrated. So, in terms of another natural means of detoxification I would recommend a particular herbal tea for you to make at home if you're so inclined. So, I would recommend buying these herbs in bulk through either Pacific Botanicals, or Mountain Rose, or Oregon's Wild Harvest. Those are three excellent companies, and you can order these herbs. So, what you want is chamomile flower, peppermint leaf, fennel seed, licorice root, burdock root, and dandelion root. You get these herbs; you put a handful of each into a quart of water. Now, keep in mind that you don't really have to worry about dose, because the dose will be represented by the size of your hand matching the size of your body which is a beautiful way to do it. You bring that water and those herbs to a boil. You reduce the heat to low, and you simmer it for about twenty minutes. Let it cool and strain it into a glass mason jar. And that is a beverage that you can drink all day that will improve digestion, support your liver and all of your organs of detoxification in a very nourishing way. So, those would be my thoughts on natural ways to detoxify the body.
