Hi, my name is Charlotte Skiles. I'm a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting located in Austin, Texas, and right now I'm going to talk to you about how to do a twenty one day colon cleansing diet. So, this is an interesting topic because quite frankly, I'm not sure that we need to cleanse. Human beings aren't dirty. We are self-cleansing organisms, and the idea that we need to cleanse our colon is a little bit funny, because really if we've got a problem in the colon; if things are sluggish down there, if the bowels aren't moving properly we've got a problem upstream in the digestive tract largely from eating in a space where your nervous system is a little bit wired and digestion turned on, so eating while you're stressed, or maybe you're not chewing your food properly, or maybe in the stomach there's not enough acid. Those are three things that will greatly affect how food ends up later on in the digestive tract. I hope that makes sense, cause' we can get obsessed with things like constipation and wanting to move the bowels and cleanse the colon, but in reality it's an upstream conversation. So, how are you eating; are you chewing your food, and could you use a little digestive support in your stomach? That said, you know, it's a good idea to give the body a break every now and again from all the toxins and all the inappropriate foods that we eat, so the idea of doing a cleanse is a positive thing because you're, you know, giving the body a rest and a chance to heal and not burdening it with inappropriate foods. So, my favorite program for a colon cleansing diet is called the purification kit by a company called Standard Process. Now, Standard Process is only available through health professionals so you would want to look that company up on the web, and call them and find a health professional in your area who could serve you with this. But, the purification kit is a full body cleanse. It's a three week program; consists of dietary changes, and this would be easy to do on your own anyway without any further support, and what that's going to involve is basically eating the foods that mother nature intended, so lots of plants, lots of vegetables, lots of berries, fruits; those kind of foods that we evolved on. Clean meats, grass fed and pastured beef, and chicken, and and bison, and wild fish would be fantastic. Good quality oils, olive oil and butter, things that, once again, we evolved on. Removing the vegetable oils from the diet. Nuts, and seeds, and legumes, and beans, and quite possibly whole grains if those are appropriate for you such as brown rice would be a very, very good one, as well as quinoa, so designing a diet around those foods. And then, the purification kit offers, basically, supplements that open up all the channels of elimination in the body, so you're facilitating kidney function and you're facilitating liver function. You are moving the bowels so the colon is getting good attention there, and you've got good dietary fiber, as well as fiber supplementation. So, that would be what I have to say about how to do a colon cleansing diet.
