About symptoms of perimenopause asthma. First of all, perimenopause is meaning about the time of menopause. Peri- means around, so it's an approximate time of menopause. The estrogen hormone levels are down. Hospitalizations increase four times over to the previous years in women with asthma. Hormone replacement has not been proven to help. Symptoms increase prior to menopause, a moderate amount of severe asthma attacks before and after their period. Oral contraceptives have not helped, have not been proven to be helpful from all the studies that I have read. And also it's kind of an amusing situation that when young boys about 8-12 years of age, according to some of the studies, they have more asthma than the female. But with the girl as she becomes a woman and later in life with age develops more asthma. So more women have asthma according to the studies than men.
