"I'm Dr. David Thomas. I'm a practicing psychotherapist in Tampa Florida with the Whitford Thomas Group. I'm going to speak to you today about types of Bipolar Disorders. Bipolar used to be known as Manic Depression is a mood disorder. It has two components a mania which is an elevated mood and a depression which obviously is a depressed mood. So when we talk about the types of Bipolar Disorder you have Bipolar 1, Bipolar 2 and Cyclothymia. With Bipolar 1 it is usually characterized by at least one manic episode and one depression episode with Bipolar 2 you primarily have a depressed, episodes of depression with at least one manic episode. Cyclomania or Cyclothymia which is a Type of Bipolar Disorder you have a combination of both but Bipolar 1 you have one or other, Bipolar 2 you have dominantly Major Depression with one manic episode and Cyclothymia you have a combination of both. All three are mood disorders characterized by mania as well as depression. I'm Dr. David Thomas speaking to you about the types of Bipolar Disorders."
