This is financial adviser Patrick Munro talking about the issue: Do personal checks expire? Having a checking account with a financial institution is a privilege, not a right, and there are certain responsibilities that come upon the bank customer to do that. Make sure that you work with a bank that you're comfortable with and that will supply you a renewal of checks when you need more. Of course, when you present yourself to the bank, they will make sure that your signatures are on file and your correct address and social security number are on that file. If you move and you...of course, your old checks have your old address on them, essentially, your checks have expired, even though your supply of checks has not. So from that perspective, your personal checks would expire if you don't keep your file current with the financial institution. In this day of corporate transfers and people moving around from job to job to try to find their better station in life. And if get married, of course, and change your name if you're a female, then your checks would expire as well. So keeping your bank current on your current portfolio of information is so important.
