"What is the size of the US military? US armed forces currently sits at about 2.5 million members including 850,000 reserves and 100,000 at the Department of Defense. The Army is by far the largest with about a half of million active members. There's 350,000 more in the Army National Guard and 200,000 more in the Army Reserve. The Air Force and the Navy have approximately 330,000 each and the Marines have 200,000. The Coast Guard, also a branch of the military, has 43,000. There are one million reserve forces total. These numbers are absolutely necessary due to our presence in 39 countries and in 820 installations and bases around the globe. And there are approximately 1 millions active duty personnel serving just in the United States in the territories and that includes 90,000 who are currently at sea."
