In order for an individual to be determined eligible for hospice benefits under Medicare, they have to be eligible, number one, for Medicare Part A coverage. Number two, they have to have a doctor sign a statement, saying that they're terminally ill, or expected to pass within the next six months. Also, the individual has to sign a statement saying that they would prefer hospice care, as opposed to traditional Medicare treatment. Lastly, the individual has to go to a hospice center, that is approved by the Medicare program, so those are sort of the four requirements, for an individual to obtain hospice care through Medicare.
