"Hello. I'm Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, board certified dermatologist, and author of "Six Weeks to Sensational Skin." This clip is about the dangers of tanning beds. And basically what you have to know, is that tanning beds are linked to the rate of increased skin cancers. Including very dangerous and aggressive kinds of skin cancers, called the Melanomas. When you go under a tanning bed, which we as dermatologists wish you would never do, but if you risk your health by going under a tanning bed, you must understand that those beds have very high doses of ultra-violet A. And ultra-violet A is the part of the sun spectrum which is very powerful, and penetrates very deeply through the skin, and gets into the layer of cells in our skin that produces the melanocytes. When the melanocytes get a little too much stimulation from the tanning bulbs, you are putting yourself at risk from Melanoma. Please, please avoid this. This is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo in Miami."
