Most people are familiar with AARP as a provider of discounts and services to those age fifty plus who qualify for AARP membership. But it's much more than that. We are involved in trying to improve the quality of life for everyone as they age, and to focus attention on issues of importance to people as they age. We're involved in information and education at every level from the national stage right on down to the community. We're involved in advocacy at both the federal and the state level. We're involved in all sorts of volunteerism, and we even have AARP chapters around the country, which is one way to experience AARP. Some members elect to join with other members in their area, and have a locally chartered chapter where they meet once a month, have a program, do social activities, do community service projects, and so forth.
