"Hi I'm Kelli. I'm an aesthetician and makeup artist at Ulta Salon and Cosmetics, and I'm going to show you how to apply make up base. The first thing you want to do when applying your make up base or foundation is you want to make sure that you have the proper color. So we're just going to take a little bit of this and we're going to stripe it on her face from cheek to jaw. Just kind of blend it out slightly. And what we want is we want it to completely disappear. We don't it leave any line or demarcation along the jaw line, which that one does. It blends perfectly into her skin so we don't have to worry about any lines. So then I'm just going to take a little bit of my foundation, and I like to put the foundation on with a brush. You get a better blend. You get better coverage, and you actually use a lot less product. If you use a sponge, you have a tendency to kind of waste a lot of your make up because it kind of absorbs into the sponge so you're wasting a lot of it. So we're just going to kind of brush the foundation on her skin in downward strokes. Downward strokes kind of smooth out the look of the pores and keeps the make up from going into the pores. So you want to think when you apply skin care, you want to apply it up. When you apply make up, you want to apply it in a downward motion. The nice thing about a brush as well is you're really able to kind of get into smaller areas such as around the nose and things like that to get some better coverage. Also works well for around the under eye. So you can see how that blended out really smooth, and it looks very natural and she got really great coverage. And we hardly used even a pump of foundation. So that's how you would want to apply your make up base."
