Series Summary

The term health insurance is generally used to describe a form of insurance that pays for medical procedures. It is sometimes used more broadly to include insurance covering disability or long-term nursing or custodial care needs. It may be provided through a government-sponsored social insurance program, or from private insurance companies. It may be purchased on a group basis or by individual consumers, yet in either scenario, the covered groups or individuals pay premiums or taxes to help protect themselves from high or unexpected health care expenses. Similar benefits paying for medical expenses may also be provided through social welfare programs funded by the government. In this free video series, an insurance representative provides information for people looking to buy either health insurance or renter's insurance. Find out how to purchase AARP life insurance, how to calculate the amount of life insurance that is needed, and why renter's insurance may be necessary. Learn about prenatal health insurance, health insurance for college students, and discover what flood insurance protects against. Gain a better understanding of the insurance world with help from these free videos.

"This is John Pinelli, financial representative, talking to you today about how to pay medical expenses without health coverage. Now the way that you pay medical expenses without health insurance coverage is out of pocket. You pay this money to the hospitals because you have had no health insurance coverage and sometimes they will work out payment plans with you where you can pay a smaller amount on a monthly basis so you are not burdened with this large hospital bill all at once but typically unless you are able to qualify for a certain aid, Medicaid, Medicare you are not able to obtain any coverage for these medical bills without having any health insurance coverage. So it is important to obtain medical coverage or health insurance coverage before you have these medical expenses not wait until you have these huge medical expenses and then, oh no how do I pay for these maybe I should have health insurance. By then it is too late and you will most likely have to pay these expenses out of pocket unless you are able to qualify for qualified aid or somehow get these debts reduced, maybe file bankruptcy, etc. but hopefully if that situation arises you are able to pay these bills off and you are able to work out some sort of payment plan with the hospital so that you can pay them on a timely manner and to not be paying them for the rest of your life and not have to pay all the money at once. This has been John Pinelli, financial representative, talking to you today about how to pay for medical expenses without health insurance."
