This is John Pinelli, Financial Representative talking to you today about how Medicaid works with Kaiser Insurance. Medicaid is a broad-based, federally sponsored program that is governed individually by the states. Now what I mean by that is, Medicaid is a very loosely based program. There's a kind of a broad federal guideline that occurs with Medicaid, whereas each individual state is then given some flexibility underneath that umbrella of that broad-based program. So Medicaid does vary greatly from state to state, but the programs are fairly similar in the sense that individuals with low income are able to obtain some coverage for themselves, family members through Medicaid should they have no other health insurance at all. So Medicaid can fill that crucial role of protecting families with low income against major, major financial holes that can be dug for them without having this type of coverage. Kaiser does do a lot of research involving Medicaid and health care for low income families. There are many statistics that they provide that can be found online if you're interested. I would simply look at the Kaiser website. They will provide you a lot of information about Medicaid, and they will even provide you with forms, I believe, that will help you apply for Medicaid if you think that you're eligible. So for individuals who have Medicaid, Kaiser is a great place for them to go. Kaiser is one of the largest providers for individuals who have Medicaid, and that's why they've gathered a lot of statistics and research on individuals who've used Medicaid through them. Now the way Medicaid funding works is when an individual who has Medicaid goes to Kaiser, the government will pay a large portion of....the federal government will pay a large portion of that bill, while the state will also have to kick in a portion, as well. So it's combined with federal and state funding to provide this Medicaid program for the individual.
