"Hi, I'm Petra Cunningham-Smith with Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida. Today we're going to talk about whether or not dolphins are smarter than humans. Dolphins are considered to be very intelligent animals. They have very large brains, just like humans. In the case of humans though, a larger portion of their brain is devoted to reasoning behaviors. Such as memory, communication and thought. In the case of a dolphin, a large portion of their brain is devoted to motor skills. Such as swimming and jumping and diving. Because humans can perform complex behaviors such as language and reading and writing and those kinds of things. We generally consider them to be smarter than dolphins. But dolphins are extremely intelligent animals. That are uniquely adapted to living in their water environment. They're very social animals. They are able to communicate between themselves. They must hunt and navigate large fishes in the world's oceans. So they're very smart animals and they're uniquely adapted to living in the ocean. I'm Petra Cunningham-Smith here at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida."
