"My name is Doug Leavy. I'm principle agent and owner of Strategic Insurance Services in Clearwater, Florida and I'm going to talk to you today about how to train to become an insurance agent. One of the best things about being an agent which I am is that this is truly a career, it's not a job. A job someone tells you what you are worth and what you earn, a career you actually earn what you are worth. When considering entering into this field I would strongly recommend developing good interpersonal skills and communication skills. You are interacting with the public every day all day helping them solve problems and meet their family's needs. So it is important to always listen, keep in mind the needs of the client above your own. After that you would also want to strongly consider developing some basic understanding of insurance and how that works. You could certainly go to a local insurance school. There are several in the area in the state of Florida and all over the country. After that you would then go and pursue an insurance license which you would have to take a state exam and pass and after that you can begin working in an insurance agency. I would also recommend developing a relationship with a local agent and potentially interning there to really get a feel of what it is like to be in an agent's office every day. My name is Doug Leavy, I'm with Strategic Insurance Services in Clearwater, Florida. Come experience a world of difference."
