Good afternoon, my name is Tom Brintzenhofe, Certified Master Tech out of Redding, PA and today we are going to talk a little bit about how to paint a car with peeling paint. One thing you want to keep in mind if you look at this. You are going to see it has got a lot of chip marks in it and it is starting to come off a little bit here and there. As this thing gets a little older and it is starting to rust out a little bit you get a little bit of moisture between the paint and the primer and it is really going to start peeling back and there are a lot of Fords and Chevys out there that have a lot of problems with the primer back in the early 90's, late 80's and the paint just peel off and it looks like they went 200 miles and hour and the paints are just peeling off of them but those particular vehicles if that is what you have in mind other than these little chips here and there, the little spots. If you have a hood or fender or a roof that is peeling off and you are really not sure how to paint it the easiest thing I can tell you is it has all got to be stripped down, unfortunately all the way to the metal because a lot of times the problem they have is actually in the primer itself the paint isn't sticking to it so even if you would take the paint off and repaint it it is just going to continue to peel on you so you have to strip it all the way down to the metal which will take a lot of grinding and a lot of chemicals to get it off. Keep that in mind, even these little spots here throughout the hood if you were to touch that up with a little tiny body glazing, sand it down nice and smooth and repaint it over time this hood too will start to peel after a couple years so just keep that in mind if that is the issue you have, your best bet is to sand it all down and start from scratch and go from there if you want the best job you can possibly get. And that is the most I can tell you when you are talking about painting a car with peeling paint.
