"Hi, I'm Kelly, I'm an aesthetician and makeup artist at Ulta Salon and Cosmetics, and I'm going to tell you how you can get rid of old chicken pox scars. One of the easiest things that you can do is to use an alphahydroxy based exfoliant. Basically what those acids entail, is like your glycolic acids, your lactic acids, your malic acids, and basically what they're going to do is they're going to penetrate deeper down through the epidermis into the dermis. They're going to bring those damaged, dead, old skin cells to the surface; exfoliate, slough them off, get rid of them, and help to produce newer healthier skin cells. So it's going to help to soften the appearance of the scar, it's going to help to even texture and tone, and it's also going to help to make it appear a lot smoother. Another thing that you could do is to follow up with a lightening agent or a brightening agent, and basically what these are going to do is they're going to lighten any discoloration or hyperpigmentation that you might see on the scar, and also these are going to mildly exfoliate as well, and they're going to help to soften the texture and the tone and make it appear a lot smoother and definitely reduce look. So those are two things that you can do to help get rid of old chicken pox scars."
