on 9/9/2009 It's NOT similar to whistling. A recommended flute embouchure would be to say "wee-too." You do not need to grease a flute, you simply need to clean the joints. That is NOT how you hold a flute. The L3 does NOT go on the Ab key. LMAO. This is ridiculous.

"Hey my name is Brian Medeiros. I'm a flute instructor and I'm going to show you a little bit about the flute. First of all a flute is basically just a tube similar to a saxophone and the clarinet. It is a wood wind instrument. It is called a wood wind instrument even though it doesn't actually use a reed, you just blow across this tone hole to make the sound. If you are learning how to play the flute to make a sound is basically the first step similar to whistling you are just blowing across this tone hole and making a sound. So when you start practicing for the very first time you are going to want to take this first piece of the flute, put it to your lip and just blow across just using this first section of the flute to make a sound and you have to kind of part your lips like you are whistling kind of to make this sound. Practice that to get that sound good and then you can put the flute together. There is three parts to every basic flute. You want to slide them together carefully not to damage any of the mechanical work there. When you put it together you want the tone hole to line up with the keys basically, well kind of line up with the keys and the mechanical work so that it is easy to hold in your hand properly and then you get the last section of the typical flute and put it on there like so. It is important to use some kind of cork grease or some kind of grease to make this process of putting a flute together smooth because you don't want to damage the flute obviously or effect the sound and this is how you hold the flute in your fingers just like so. It is real similar to the fingerings on a saxophone and a clarinet. Wood wind instruments are very similar. It is also similar kind of to a record too if you want to basically start out learning you can start using a recorder, move up to a flute. The difficult part about playing the flute again is actually making the sound across the tone hole just like I demonstrated and that's your very first flute lesson."
