Hi my name is Reka Morvay I'm a Psychologist, and I'm going to talk to you about when you should meet the parents. Now this can be a thorny question when you should meet your boyfriend or girlfriend's parents. And I think that some of the things to think about here are do you want to; this is a good beginning question, does your partner want you to, and are the parents interested. These are some of the major considerations. If you have absolutely no interest in meeting your boyfriend or girlfriend's parents then any meeting that does take place will probably be pretty awkward. I think the best time to meet the parents is when everybody involved feels ready and feels an interest in having this meeting take place. Until that happens and maybe even after that happens it maybe best to some how find a time when it can be done casually; when it's not a very big formal event where you have to be introduced, and that doesn't really even happen like that very much these days. So if you can sneak it in there somehow and just run into the parents and be casually introduced perhaps that would be the easiest way to take care of this problem. And then of course it's up to the parents as the adults to make the first step, and if they want to get to know you or your boyfriend or girlfriend better to extend an invitation and say "well why don't you invite them over so that we can meet them."
