"I'd like to talk about how to select an Australian Shepherd. With any breed of dog you want to read up more on the individual breed, and choose them not simply for how they look or things you've heard about them anecdotally, but actually based upon reports from people who have and appreciate the breed. And information online and in books will help you make a better decision. You want to make a decision about this breed of dog. Is this a good dog for my family now, and will this be a good dog for my family for their whole lifetime; potentially fifteen or more years, so make a good decision that respects the bond that you will create with this animal. Australian Shepherds generally, and individual dogs will var will vary, require quite a bit of grooming cause' they have a long coat that needs to be brushed out. They are very active dogs who are friendly. They need a lot of exercise with mental and physical. They're generally a good dog in sporting events; doing agility and other things that challenge their mind and their ability. If you are considering adopting a puppy you would be best served by looking at a reputable breeder who breeds on a small scale, which means you would pay more for the privilege of getting a dog from somebody who knows a lot about the breed, and is trying to breed a good dog, a good puppy for you that has not just the look of the breed, but also the solid temperament and the health that you would want from an animal. Another consideration always is to adopt a rescue."
