"Let's talk about how to buy an exotic pet. There are multiple different types of exotic pets out there for purchase. The first thing you need to know is research, research, research. You want to make sure you're getting the type of exotic pet that's right for you. Because not all of them are. Always research first by books, talking to your veterinary clinic, talking to your pet store. You want to make sure that an exotic pet is going to be something that you're going to take care of for a long time. Because a lot of these guys can live for quite some time. Never buy an exotic pet on impulse. There are multiple different types. There are small mammals and rodents like chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, there are ferrets, there are also rabbits, there are also reptiles, birds, things of that nature. So again, reptiles can have their own unique set of issues, same with birds, same with small mammals. So always know what you're getting first and never ever try to keep an indigenous species that is wildlife as an exotic pet. It's illegal and in most states and plus it's just not good for the animal. Again, always check with your veterinarian, your pet store or research book wise as far as exotic pets are concerned. Make sure you get the proper housing first and make sure you understand the needs, especially diet. Because with exotic pets every species is a little bit different when it comes to diet."
