"I'm Mike Quinn, I've been an entomologist for twenty years and we're here at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center and talking about how to take care of a cocoon. Basically the cocoon is a non feeding stage so the care is minimal. But you do want to keep it at an appropriate temperature, typically the ambient outdoor temperature is good. So you might keep it in a garage to protect it. The moisture if it's indoors sometimes it can dry out so you might want to spritz a cocoon to keep the moisture up. And if you want to protect it, you can keep it in a screened in enclosure to keep parasites and predators away from it. So minimal control or minimal Factors controls needed to see that the cocoon has a healthy life. And you want to have something for the critter when it emerges out to hang down from. So those are the things that are required to take care of a cocoon."
