"I'm Mike Quinn. I've been an entomologist for twenty years. We're here at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center talking about, "What do ladybugs eat?" Ladybugs are beneficial insects that are beetles and in both the caterpillar or larval stage and in the adult beetle stage, they are voracious predators and they feed on a lot of pest insects. Foremost on their diets are aphids which are prolific pests on a variety of plants. And aphids provide food for ladybugs and the ladybugs keep the aphids population in check. Milkweed is a good plant to look for aphids and then subsequently get in ladybug larvae and adults there. And there's a wide variety of ladybug larvae and adult species in North America and aphids are one of the main things they feed on."
