This is financial advisor, Patrick Munro, on how to choose a credit counselor. If you find yourself in difficulties regarding credit a credit counselor is often a logical choice for you to go. If there are credit counselors available in your marketplace on a public servant basis make sure you go there first. Normally, these are fee free services, and you can avail yourselves of those services to solve your problem. If they are not available however, or you just feel uncomfortable using those sources you can go to a private company. If you're comfortable with the fee that the private company would charge you by all means go forward and do just that, and it is great to have a credit counselor solve the issues of credit problems. It's very stressful, and sometimes they provide a logical and clear voice for you at a time of financial stress.
