"Hello, I am Patti German, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New York City. In this clip, we're going to talk about how to stop being shy. Well I think one of the most important things to understand about shyness is that shyness is a hereditary factor in anyone, but it does lead to insecurity, and to understand that feeling insecure around other people may be something you can control, it may not be that you're inadequate, it may not be that there's something wrong with you, but it may just be a fear of interacting with others. So when you understand that what covers it is an insecurity, to try to understand that everybody wants to connect on some level with someone else, and if you put yourself forward without talking about yourself, but asking someone about someone, about themselves, him or her, you might be able to connect easier, and start to overcome an insecurity in being with others. This is Patti German in New York City."
