"My name's Kelly Von Plonski, I own Subterranean Books. We're in the loop at 6275 Delmar. Our slogan is "From high culture to sub-culture", so we tend to ride the dual...dual rails of both literature and low brow art, film, pop culture writers from Bukowski to the Beats, as well as book or award winners, or national book award winners. We always knew that we wanted to be in the Loop. The Loop is surrounded by really literate people, I would say, so the neighborhood is very important, as our client?le, as well as it has a big tourist attraction. It's one of the only two really pedestrian friendly areas in St. Louis, so we get a lot of people in from New York, from L.A., from Chicago, from D.C., who often lament, you know, the passing of their locally owned establishments and their small book stores, so they...they come in and are ecstatic. As well as being next to the university, which pulls in a lot of students and their visiting family members."
