"Arthritis is something that acupuncture has proven benefits for. I’ve even seen it written up in such mainstream places as webMD. They actually recommended people use acupuncture for arthritis. Acupuncture is an interesting thing to use for arthritis because arthritis is a process; the body’s placing mineral deposits and calcium deposits on the surfaces of the bones where it’s not supposed to go instead of putting it into the bones where people need it. Acupuncture can help reverse this process and help get the body back into proper alignment. I had a patient who had chronic arthritis for over twenty years and her fingers were all twisted about and some of her bones had grown together and one of her doctors had told her that they could break that joint and help it move again but there didn’t seem to be much point because it was just simply going to fuse again because the process was still advancing. I worked with this patient for several months using acupuncture and not only did she get to the point where she could do things like play cards and open door knobs and put seat belts on and she became completely pain free. But the swelling her hands went away and the arthritis began, ever so slowly, to reverse itself. Of course her main concern was that it didn’t hurt anymore. That was what she was thankful for."
