"Hi, I'm Dorian Winterfeld on behalf of Expert Village. I've been doing web programming for about ten years, and today we are going to cover the basics of html. We have our very basic web page which is our html file, Hello.html. on my hard drive in a folder called Expert Village. Which is great, if only you want to look at the web page, but if you want other people on the internet to look at your web page, you need to upload it to a web server. There's a lot of web hosting companies out there. I'm going to assume that you already have a web server, and that you know the basics of what's called ftp, or file transfer protocol. That is how you transfer the file from your computer to the web server on the internet. That's beyond what we're going to discuss today, but it's not hard and you can read about it. If you get a web hosting account they'll help you with that. I have what's called an ftp client on my computer, and I have it open to my remote web server. I am going to now open up my folder where I have my web files for our example. I am going to take our file, which is called Hello.html, and I'm going to transfer it to the web server; I just did. Then I'm going to also transfer our image. This is a gif image, and it is uploaded. Now, we don't see them on the web server, I think I need to refresh it, and here they are. I've uploaded them, and here are the files on the web server, Hello.html, and our image. To see them on our web server, this is the one on my hard drive, all we have to do is go to the web site where we uploaded the file. I'm going to reload this. Here is our file which you've just uploaded, on my web server. I'm going to show you how you would enter it in your web browser. You would type in the address of your web site, and then the name of your html file, which in this case is Hello.html. Once we've entered it, you're going to hit go, and there you go. Our web page, rather than being on my computer, is now on the internet where anyone can see it or link to it. Just to show you that the link works just the same, hit the back button and go back to our page on the internet. This is the basics of creating an html file or a web page, and uploading it to the World Wide Web where anyone can see it."
