"Hi! This is Zach with Expert Village and today we are going to talk about connecting and using your USB external storage device. Here I have an external USB storage device. It is also if you notice a firewire device. Some devices are only USB and some are only firewire and occasionally you will run across devices that support both USB and firewire so you can use them on a number of different systems and still access the same information. To connect to your USB drive first connect your power adapter. After connecting your power adapter, you can then connect to your USB cable. Most USB devices such as this one uses larger USB connectors; it's only a 4-pin and we will plug it in like that. On the back of your computer you would look fro USB icon. It looks like three little prongs coming out of a dot and you can usually see that on just about any kind of USB connector. Make sure when plugging your cable in if it doesn't feel like it is going to fit properly that you don't have it turned backwards because USB is sometimes easy to try to put it in the wrong way but don't force it if it doesn't feel like it is going to fit; otherwise you might damage your drive connections. After connecting the power and connecting your cable if there is a power button on the drive which most of them do have, switch it to on and make sure it is on and working and you will see a light on the front.
