Now on the top of the terrarium, I have this metal framed lid with a wire mesh top. This wire is heat resistant and it's made to withstand high levels of heat. Now because I have this wire mesh on top, I am able to set my lights directly on top of the terrarium, which is very convenient for my space. I have a very small area I keep this terrarium in, and it's very convenient that it only takes a few extra inches on top, to be able to light my terrarium. Now this light back here is a fluorescent full spectrum tube. You can find these in the fish area of your local pet store. They do not require levels of UVB. This is one reptile that is not required to have those UVB rays in order to survive. Because they are nocturnal, they will stay hidden in their cave for the daytime, for all the daytime hours, most likely. Rarely will you see your leopard gecko come out during the day. So since they come out at night, they don't require the UVB light that would normally be required with a reptile. Now here I have a reflector dome. This is a small one. It's only made to withstand about sixty watts, which is fine, because these leopard geckos don't require a very high wattage bulb. Now during the day, I have a basking light that I put in here. A basking light is not necessary during the day, maybe for a few hours like I mentioned, just because the leopard geckos don't come out during the day. Now at night, I replace the basking light here with a moon glow bulb. That's what I use, it's a small blue bulb that produces moderate to small amount of heat during the evening time, so that the leopard gecko, when she is out and about, will be able to warm up if she needs to. Like I said, they don't require very high wattage. So this small dome on top is just perfect for my little ten gallon aquarium.
