" Hi! My name is Sarah, I’m here at Pet Land in Pembroke Pines tonight, and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I’m going to speak with you a little bit about purchasing and owning a pet turtle. One other thing to keep in mind when you’re considering getting a turtle is that turtles can have very, very long lifespan. Most reptiles can live for a very long time. Turtles commonly will live anywhere from 10 all the way to 50-60 years, and you need to be prepared for that. You can’t just get a turtle on a whim, keep it for a little while and then release it into the wild when you or the children grow tired of it. Simply releasing your turtle into the wild is not a viable option that you do not want your turtle anymore. Doing so may ensure that your turtle has an untimely demise, or that your turtle does well and crowds out native species. If you have a turtle that you do not want to keep anymore, you should contact a reptile rescue organization in your area to see if they have any homes available. As far as hibernation goes with your turtle, this is a subject that you should definitely check with your exotic reptile veterinarian, because depending on the species of the turtle and the region of the country that you live in, hibernation could be necessary or in some cases, it could be extremely dangerous to the health of your turtle. So once again, if you have any questions about hibernating your turtle, you should check with your qualified reptile veterinarian. On behalf of expertvillage.com, I would like to thank you for letting me speak to you about your pet turtle.
