Understanding Horse Behavior

"This is Randall Powell with Expert Village, and in this clip, we're going to talk about behavioral aspects when riding your horse and just understanding your horses behavior. Horses are prey animals. There's 2 different types of animals; there's prey animals and predators. The predators have their eyes in the front. As you can see the horses have their eyes on the side of their head, which means they're prey animals. They have the fighter flight syndrome, which means they make a decisions at a drop of a hat, just instantly. They'll decide whether to stay or whether they need to run for their lives. Nine times out of the 10, the horses will run for their lives. They kind bulgur easy and they get scared quickly, so you got to kind of take that into consideration when riding and training horses or just being around them. Just understand that that's the type of animal they are. They're also heard animals. Their security blanket is when they're with other horses or other animals in general. If you don't have the money to get 2 horses or don't have the space, you can just put a goat with him or a donkey or a cow. Any kind of animal what so ever that's another heard animal will make your horse feel way safer knowing that he's with a companion because they're heard animals and that's what makes them feel safe is companionship.
