How to Make a Sewing Pattern

"Hi, I'm Terri Turco with Expert Village and we've been working busily getting ready with this pattern. Showing you how to navigate through a pattern, how to find the right fabric and really prepare that tissue for cutting out. Now we are at the final stage, we're going to really pin this fabric down and show you all the nuances that are important in placing this tissue on the pattern. OK, first of all what you want to do is you see we have two pieces. Obviously this is a really simple top to make because it's only got two pieces. Now this is our fabric that doesn't have a nap. If you don't know what a nap is it's when you have a fabric like corduroy or velveteen or velvet that is lighter or darker depending on which way the nap is going. This is a crepe de chine and it's very silky so I always say get something to weight it down so it doesn't ride and glide on you. And then what you want to do is you're going to put your first pattern piece down. Now there's a number of ways that you can use this fabric and pattern but I'm just going to show you the most simple way right now just to keep things really easy. Both of these pieces are on the fold and the way that you know that they are on the fold, because sometimes it's hard to see. But there is actually an arrow that's right on, pointing at the same line. That means it's on the fold and as we talked about before this is the fold of the fabric and the ends, when they come together, that's the salvage."
