"Hello, my name is Melisa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about how to deal with a bully. In this clip let's talk about courage, our next pillar of cultivating character. By courage I mean by facing the challenge. So if we're talking about how to deal with a bully, well we need to face that challenge, life will always throw challenges at you whether you're a young person or an adult. It's a universal truth that how you do anything in your life is how you do everything. It's the universal truth. We need to quit waiting and to believe in ourselves and to take action and have that courage to shine. That's what Spread the Sunshine is all about. Your brain, a lot of people don't use their heads often enough, but our brains are actually goal seeking organisms. Whatever goal we give to our subconscious mind. When we go to bed at night, it will work day and night to achieve those goals. Think back to when you were a baby, you knew what you wanted, you knew what you had to do to get what you wanted, what did you want? You wanted to be fed, you wanted to changed, you wanted to be held, be loved, be hugged and what did you have to do? You cried. You knew exactly what you had to do. Well, as we get older, we learn how to crawl, we learned how to explore, we were curious, we had no fear. Then, we got older and adults all around us, young people. We're telling young people that you can't have everything you want, money doesn't grow on trees, but can you have everything you want? This does all relate back to how you deal with a bully. Your wants, things you want in life. I want to be someone, I want to be liked, I want to be friendly, I want to be appreciated. They are all a true expression of a core values. So, as an exercise to yourself, try to list the things that you want in your life, then try to turn some of those wants into concrete goals for yourself. A lot of problems are that we haven't created goals for ourselves, so we let the people around us bother us because we have not created enough really for our brains to focus on the choice of what we really want to believe, if we can or if we can't, is entirely up to us. Now, these pieces, these clips are just very small portions of we do within Spread the Sunshine. This one is on courage or next one will be on respect."
