Sewing is an ancient craft that still has remarkable relevance in today's modern world, but you won't need it in every crafty project. Industrial sewing is usually done with the use of machines, but for seamstresses, alteration givers, and most casual sewers, an old fashioned needle and thread is still incredibly useful and more often than not the desired method since it enables far more detail. Tailoring and dressmaking require not only a needle and thread, but also other tools and materials that you can find easily at arts and crafts stores. Find out about making a blanket without sewing right here!
In this short video series, expert Gretchen Soares shows you how to make a tie blanket, this one is the perfect size for an infant carrier. Without sewing, Gretchen shows you how to select fabric, layout and trim the cloth, cut the corners, and tying together the blanket. Tie blankets work great for college dorms or gifts to loved ones.
"Hi, welcome to Expert Village. I'm Gretchen Soares with Butterfly Boutique. In this project we are going to make an infant carrier size tie blanket. This is a project that is very simple anybody can do it so for this blanket we used what's called polar fleece. It's a great fabric that it has a lot of stretch in one direction, very little stretching in the other direction. But the other reason that is great for this project is that it doesn't ravel. A standard fabric is going to ravel and pull apart on the edges but this does not. It also landers extremely well, it's 100% machine washable and you can either put it in the drier or line dry it. I have found that this stuff just maintains it's soft and fuzzy feel no matter what you do. My kids each have their own blanket they card it everywhere, it goes in the washer at least once a week and they still feel and look brand new years later. So this is actually a wonderful project for longevity."
