Summary: Reflective paper needs to be cut into strips when making kaleidoscopes. Learn how to make a kaleidoscope with reflective strips in this free art video.
"The first thing that I am going to do is prepare my reflective paper. I am going to need three strips each strip is going to be about an inch and a quarter wide by about six inches long. Now what I am going to be doing with these strips is I am going to put them together as a three sided kind of a triangular shape and that?s going to cause the reflection to bounce off each side. So you will see once we put it together who we do it but for right now we need to make sure cutting three equal size strips and they should be about an inch and a quarter by six inches. Now if you using a type of reflective paper that on the back side that has some different measurements or guide line that let you cut it or size it much easier then you can also use those guide lines it doesn't have to be exactly the inch and a quarter you can go by the guide lines that you have on the back of your reflective paper. Just making sure that all of the strips are equal size. So in my case I am using those little boxes as an a guide I am cutting about three boxes wide and about fifteen boxes high and it just gives me a nice straight lines some guide lines to be able to cut the strips nice and even. Once my strips are cut I am going to have to tape them together first I am going to have to take off any protective surface that might be over the reflective appear. Now this might not be necessarily for the type of reflective paper that your using it may not have this protective surface this clear plastic but most of the papers do come with it if it is a true mirror like reflective paper. So its just a clean sheet of very thin plastic that just protects the paper from any kind of scratches or getting dull and it peels right off and we see that once it does peel right off how shiny the paper really is its almost like a mirror and that?s going to come in handy when we put it when it goes on the inside of the kaleidoscope its going to really reflect all the different colors its going to bring out a nice reflection and create all different types of shapes as the color of the beads and the sequences bounce off each strip and each side of the mirrored paper. So now I have shown you haw to cut the strips and make sure that you have all the protective sheet that runs across the top make sure that you take that off. Now were ready to tape the strips together."
