Summary: Buffing makes your fingernails soft and smooth. Learn how to buff nails in this free video clip from a professional nail artist.
"Now that you've removed the polish, and you've filed the nail into the desired shape that you want, it is time to buff the nail. You buff the nail to get the ridges off of the top of the nail so that polish goes no smoothly. You want to use the fine side, not the rough side on a natural nail. And you just want to kind of buff, not really take off any of the nail, just make it so it's nice, smooth so that polish goes on in a smooth motion. You want to go underneath the nail, just to kind of make sure that again, there are no rough edges left over from the nail file and to just kind of soften the edges, just a little. You're going to want to do this to all ten nails. This also takes any pterygium, which is excess cuticle that is growing down on the nail, off. Again, so that there isn't anything that is going to cause the polish to not adhere. It also removes any excess oils on the nail plate itself. Once you're done buffing all ten nails, you'll be ready to start your next step in the nail art. Again, just make sure, double check and make sure that you didn't miss any spots, any pterygium or any ridges on the nail. And this is how you buff nails."
