Summary: Get tips on how to file your nails in this free video clip from a professional nail artist.
"When you file your nails, as we're doing Joyce's nails here, you want to make sure (she has natural nails) you want a fine grit nail file. You're going to start with the left pinkie, and Joyce prefers hers in an oval shape. You're going to start on the both edges of the finger, and then you're going to just kind of taper it off at the top. And it's not a complete round shape, but into just an oval so that it's slightly pointed or tapered at the tip of it. You're going to do all ten nails the same. All ten nails don't have to be the same length. Some people actually prefer them to be different lengths, just because it looks more natural. A lot of people tend to break nails, and so they'll have a couple of long ones, a couple of short ones. Depending on if you're a typer or not, your index finger is generally shorter than the rest of them. I generally like to start with the same finger on the same hand every time. That way I'm not missing a step. And to make sure that I get all ten of the nails filed in the correct shape. When you do a tapered nail, you also don't want to make it pointy at the top to where they're going to cut themselves, or stab themselves. Or scratch themselves. They can be too pointy if you're not careful. And that is how you file nails in a oval shape. "
