"The next step in prepping the natural nail is to cut down and file the nails. It's fine to leave a little bit of free edge, but for the most part, you want to get it off. The reason for clipping down the nails is when you apply the tips, you're not going to need to use as much glue. The less glue you use, the less drying time you have. You want to go ahead and file the nails just to make sure you don't have any ragged edges left on them. You can file them to the desired shape of what the finished product is going to look like. You just want to make sure that you don't have any jagged edges on here that can catch later and pull the natural nail away from the acrylic. Once you get to the end, you're going to go back and double check all ten nails. Just kind of run your finger on them to make sure that there's nothing that's going to scratch or catch on any material. If you feel an area that has a little extra edge on it, go ahead and just take that off. And that is how you cut and file the natural nail."
