Astrology, not to be confused with astronomy, is the use of the celestial bodies to draw a horoscope for some event, such as a persons birth, opening of a business endeavor, or to better understand someone. There are several forms of astrology but the three main traditions are Chinese, Western, and Vedic. The Vedic and Western traditions share a common ancestry, while the Chinese is completely different. Astrology is essentially the study of the effect the cosmos has on life on Earth, and is part science, art, and divination.

"Hi. On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Gnobo A. Calypso, also known as Bryce. And I'm here to tell you about astrology. The first thing I want to speak to you about is where astrology comes from. Astrology comes from the ancient civilizations. Astrology has been used all across the globe. The Mayans used it. The Aztecs used it. The Egyptians used it. The Chaldeans, the Babylons used it. And, the India used it. Today there's different forms of astrology and there's different calculations. But, today we're going to be working with Western numerology. Western numerology is mostly centered in Greece. And, it deals with all the planets, the cycles of the planets, the movement of the planets, and depending upon what day you were born and what time, usually the precise time because it's measured by degrees, depends upon what your astrological reading would be. So, with the ancients, they used an overview of the astrology mostly to determine a little bit about the person. But, astrology was used in medicine. It was used in healing. It was used in forecasting. The courts had astrologers that would forecast events for different kings and pharaohs. So, astrology, even though it is a soft science, can be a very accurate science depending on which school of thought that you use. Western numerology is an overall astrology that's the most popular. But, there are various forms. The ancients in the, in Egypt and Babylon and Chaldea used the astrology. They knew the planets. They knew the cycles of the planets. They knew that's how the calendar was based upon the Sun going through the different cycles of the planets and the astrological signs which there are twelve. The Egyptians felt that there were more than three hundred and sixty days, so they added another five which comes from Sirius, the star system Sirius. But, that's just to show the fluctuation within the days and why that there's different systems, different schools of thought about calendars. We're going to be dealing with the Sun, the Moon, and the nine planets today to do the basic readings of the twelve astrological signs which go from Pisces to Aquarius."
