"In this clip we're going to talk about how to market your convention. The most important thing that you can get started with is a web site. So look up, decide on a domain name, get something registered. There are plenty of registrars out there like Network Solutions and Register.com and GoDaddy. But get yourself registered as quickly as possible. Once you've done that decide on a theme of what your web site is going to look like. And you know what? Let it come from your imagination. You don't necessarily need to copy anyone. Just do what you think is going to look right. The next thing is you're going to want to do some print advertising. What I did was I started with something, I came up with a theme and it looks like that. And on the reverse side I just put on there the name of the event. I had guests at the time. I didn't even have a phone number set up. And really all of the other conventions that are out there have pieces that look like that. So mine paled by comparison as to what they look like. So I sort of had to put my thinking cap on. Put pen to paper, get my guests and I created a piece that looks like that. And lo and behold after months of having that little, little card out there, this made it look like a very significant event. And on the front I gave the information about the hotel. The back has all of my guests on it. And this became a viable marketing piece."
