One of the most difficult decisions for our future patient or new patient is deciding how to find the best acupuncturist to help them with their particular ailment. And so one of the easiest ways to do that is obviously ask your friends who may have received acupuncture. Sometimes one of your other practitioners, whether it is an MD, a nurse or maybe a massage therapist might be familiar with some of the acupuncturist that are practicing in your area. When we look for an acupuncturist there are actually two main schools of thought. There is one school that deals with traditional Chinese medicine which incorporates those five branches of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture, herbs, massage, diet therapy and exercise therapy. And then there is one called five element theory. Which is dealing more with strictly with acupuncture and a slightly different diagnostic system. That has a heavy emphasis on emotional and energetic and spiritual aspect. So for some people that may be a better choice. When you find an acupuncturist make sure that they are the appropriate practitioner for you. So you may end up going through one or two practitioners before you find the one that you really mesh with. In the same way that you have tried an MD on one occasion and you didn't get great success, you may have gone to another doctor and been much happier with them. You may not find the best acupuncturist for you the first time so you may need to try once or twice. And remember there are some websites out there that can help you. Most of them are on the web. And you can use acufinder.com and you can put in your zip code and you can find the one that is closest to your local from that area and research them a little bit.
