on 8/2/2008 Don't believe that !!! The best way is to breath into a paper bag or hold your breath. The increase in carbon dioxide in your system will help suppress the hiccups.

on 8/2/2008 It's an interesting idea, akin to holding ones breath. My concern would be that the paper towel or napkin would likely have processed chemicals in it that I really wouldn't want going in my system as I drank the water.

Video Transcript

" Hi I’m Angela on behalf of Expert Village.com and right now I am going to show you a home remedy on how to get rid of the hiccups. There are so many different ways to get rid of hiccups but this is the one that I found most effective when I was a server in a restaurant. What you want to do is just fill up a glass of water lukewarm, not too cold and don’t put ice in it. Grab either a paper towel what I have right now or a napkin. What I am going to do is place it on top of the glass and then I am going to drink out of this end from this position and just bend over and tilt it and drink a little bit until I feel the hiccups are gone. You can do this as long as you like but it doesn’t take that long and I don’t think it would take this whole glass of water either; maybe a fourth of it and then your hiccups will be healed. "
