"THE FERRET: Okay. So now, we've got the bridge back in place. I checked the action and intonation. Everything is in place here. The next thing to do would be to check the volume balance between the pickups. That's a preference really. A lot of people like a balanced setting to where the volume is the same, or sometimes people like to switch between where the pickups is almost like different channels on an amplifier where you could go from a loud sound to a soft sound. On this guitar, we're going to go for a more balanced sounds. So we're going to check that all the controls are up, and we're going to play the treble pickup here next to bridge first and then we'll play the rhythm pickup and listen for any volume differences. And we'll try a few different positions on the neck. What I'm hearing right now is that the rhythm pickup is a little lower in volume. This can be a touchy area because if you raise the rhythm pickup up, it's going to increase the bass frequencies, and you don't want too many frequencies to overload your amplifier. So you have to be careful especially on this side, these last three strings over here with the round strings, how high you raise the pickup. You want to press down at the end of the fretboard to see how much space you've got left between the string and the top pole pieces, which is where the magnets are right there on the pickup. And it looks like to me that it's lower on the treble side which is probably why we're hearing a drop in volume. So we're going to raise this side of the pickup up a little bit. It takes a Philips screwdriver and you just turn that screw clockwise to raise the pickup."
