Stroking the drum to get the proper sound and technique is done in this fashion. Now, from here up, is what I kind of call the meat of your hand that will hit the drum. But primarily, right in the middle of your fingers right here will hit the drum actually. Not so much the fingertips as the middle of your fingers and that much of your fingers. So watch. Right hand. Notice that I'm lifting from the wrist. I'm not raising my arm. This is about efficiency and playing close to the drum. Now you don't push, don't push into the drum. You will bruise your hand, you will hurt yourself. In time, that will come back at you. You don't push into the drum. So you stroke it like this. Remember, don't come down.
