"Now a days you can buy cameras that are both film and digital. This happens in the thirty-five millimeter range but also in the medium and large format range. A digital film combo is interesting because it gives you the ability to still shoot with film but also to have the ability to shoot in digital. There's two major companies that make what are called "Digital Backs" for medium and large format cameras. One is called Imacon, It's I,M,A,C,O,N and the other is called Phase One. Both are leading manufactures of digital backs, and what I mean by digital back is they make a digital component that will connect to the back of your film camera and allow you to shoot digitally with your film camera. It's pretty interesting! Now both of these of these digital backs shoot in two different ways. One is the standard way of capturing the red, the green and the blue, all at the same time like any normal camera. But the other is it uses a scanning method which where it scans for red first, then it scans for green and then it scans for blue. This can make for some incredible image, but it's important to remember that if you're using a scan unit, digital back that you can only shoot static images such as still life because it can take up to a minute to photograph these things as it scans for each individual color. It's just important to remember that you don't have to choose purely digital or purely film, that you can buy a camera that either does both or you can buy a digital back to attach to your older film camera."
