" Hi! I'm Ed Dowling from eddowling.com. I'm here to tell you how to tune your guitar to open G on behalf of expertvillage.com. I like to play the dobro in open A. There may be people who sing a lot of play bluegrass who'd like to play in open G and not use the standard dobro tuning. This is not the dobro G, this is true open G, which is open A slack down one whole note or 2 frets. We're going to end up then with some strings that are little looser than they would in open A, and you may even want to adjust your string gages accordingly. We may talk about that in another segment. We're going to end up with our tuning D, A. Excuse me G, D, G, B, and D. Know that these strings, the D, G, B, and D, are the same as the 5 string banjo. Open G tuning. It's very melodic; it keeps the strings a little looser in tension and you can play bluegrass. Anyway, this a real nice tuning if your voice is a little low it works, and the style is very comparable to playing an open A, except the strings are a little lower in tension. Also, real good for blues, I think that Muddy Waters' tune . Open G."
