"OK, you've got your battery installed in your camera, you've got your memory card, you've got your lens on the front. What you're going to want to make sure to do next, is turn your camera on and take the lens cap off. So, we've already got the lens cap off, what I'm going to do now is turn the camera from off to on. And, there's a little switch right in here, next to the LCD screen, and to the right and to the bottom. So, once your camera is turned on, there's going to be a little notice that comes on here, on your LCD screen, that the camera is cleaning itself. And that's a new feature with the Canon 40D. It's pretty cool. It just makes sure that there's no dust on your sensor. Once it's turned on, you're going to want to make sure that your camera, if you want to start shooting right away and you don't know much about the camera and you don't want to really look through the manual, just make sure that the camera is in fully automatic mode, which is this green square, here, on the camera. And then, make sure that if you do have an auto-focus lens, and you just want to start shooting, that the lens is in auto-focus mode. So, there will be either an MF or and AF switch, on the lens, just make sure it's on AF. Once, all that's ready, all you need to do is start pressing the shutter button, which is right here. From the back of the camera on the right side, with your right hand, you should be able to just put your index finger over that shutter button. And, probably what's going to happen now when I press that down halfway, the flash is going to pop up, because there's not enough light in the room. But, if you're outside that probably won't happen. And, once you press that shutter button down halfway, the camera is going to focus on, whatever is, appears to be the largest subject that's closest to the camera. It will automatically focus, and then it's ready to take the shot. So, if you look through your viewfinder and it looks composed, go ahead and press the shutter button with your index finger all the way down. And that should take a picture."
